How much will my move cost?

This is the most frequently asked question and it has no definite answer. The cost of all local moves is priced by the hour. Your personal move coordinator will determine how many movers and trucks are needed to complete the job properly. From that point, you will be given an accurate estimate of what your moving costs will be.

The cost of a long distance move is priced based on the weight and distance of your shipment. Again, your personal move coordinator will determine your estimated weight by making a detailed inventory of everything that is being moved in your home.

Other factors can affect your price, such as loading conditions (flights of stairs); packing and unpacking. Please consult your move coordinator to help determine if any factors are relevant.

Do you offer packing or unpacking services?

At Maffucci Bekins, we believe that packing is the most important part of a successful move. After consulting with your personal move coordinator, you can determine what services you would like. We have special packing crews that will offer a full-service pack, partial pack, or just supply the boxes so you can pack yourself.

Our professionally trained packers can handle any type of packing, including fine china, crating of art, marble tops, chandeliers and plasma TVs.

When is the best time to get an estimate?

It is never too early to get an estimate. It is our firm belief that you should always have a free in-home estimate (with no obligation) to best determine the costs of your move.

Our estimates are good for up to 12 months, and we can always handle last minute requests, if needed. Of course, the more time you give yourself to prepare for a move, the less stressed you will be.

When should I start packing?

It's never too early to start packing your home. The earlier you start, the more likely you will be fully prepared on your moving day. The time it takes to pack depends on the size of your home, but the average home takes roughly 2-4 weeks. Also, by starting earlier, you are able to take the time to get rid of the things you don't really need to move, thus keeping your moving costs down.

What happens if my home is not ready by the time I have to be out of my place?

At Maffucci Bekins, we are able to help with any last minute changes during the moving process. In this situation, we will work with you and make arrangements to store your belongings in our climate-controlled warehouse. We understand the stresses you go through and we're prepared to be flexible with all arrangements prior to and on your moving day.

Do you offer valuation?

When you move with Maffucci Bekins, you will always have the option of covering your household belongings during your move. We offer several types of valuations, but we always recommend that you check with your home owners or renters insurance to see if you are already covered. If not, please speak to your move coordinator to determine what coverage suits your needs.

The basic liability on local moves is $0.30 per pound per article and $0.60 per pound per article on all long distance moves. This type of insurance is included on all moves at no additional charge. If you want full replacement valuation, we are able to cover the total replacement value of your belongings. Please consult your move coordinator for costs.

What happens if something is damaged or broken?

To report loss or damage to your shipment, please contact our office to speak to a dedicated claims manager. Be sure to provide us with your Bill of Lading number and your complete mailing address, so that we can send you a claim form. We recommend that you file a claim as soon as possible, but no later than 9 months after your delivery date to assure an accurate and prompt settlement. Be aware that the valuation protection you selected will determine your settlement amount. Do not discard any damaged items until a representative has had the opportunity to view the damage.

How can I pay for my move?

You can pay for your move by cash, certified check, bank check, company check or credit card. We do not accept personal checks for any residential moves. We also do not require deposits for any moves. You pay for services rendered upon conclusion of your move.

Are we expected to give the movers tips?

While tipping is entirely your decision, it is always appreciated. For exceptional service, the typical tip would be roughly 10-15% of the total move costs. It is best that you compensate each mover separately. Feel free to call us for further explanation.



How much will the move cost?

The cost of your move will be determined by sending a project manager (PM) to survey your office. Once the PM has all the necessary information, we can determine how many trucks, movers and hours your office will require to complete its relocation. The goal of the PM is to make the move as seamless as possible so your company can be up and running with as little downtime as possible.

Maffucci Bekins also offers extra services including breakdown of furniture, furniture installation and moving of all computer equipment/servers. Please consult with your PM to determine if these services will be needed.

Do you offer packing or unpacking services?

Maffucci Bekins can handle all packing needs including computers, servers, desktops and file cabinets. Please discuss any services you would like to include in the estimate with your project manager. All of our professionally trained packers and movers are able to handle any last minute requests your company may need due to your busy schedule.

When is the best time to get an estimate?

The best time for an office move estimate is roughly 3-6 months prior to your moving date. This way we can coordinate with any other vendors you've employed in order to have your company up and running with as little downtime as possible.

When should we start packing?

It's never too early to start the packing process. However, we know that your workers are very busy and will not be able to pack their things until just before or on the day you move. We can have our packers onsite that day, or have boxes delivered at your convenience.

When is the best time to move?

We believe the optimal time to move is either after hours or during the weekend. Your office can save both money and time when the movers do not have to share elevator space during busy office hours. We will work around your schedule and fit your company's needs, but these are typically the optimal moving hours.

How would you handle our valuable computer/server equipment?

On the day Maffucci Bekins relocates your office, the movers will have padded computer bins for your computers or servers. Inside these commercial bins, each computer/server will be wrapped individually in bubble wrap or pad wraps. Also, each keyboard will be put in its own keyboard bag and labeled accordingly so it can be unpacked easily. Consult your project manager about your packing needs.

What happens if our office is not ready on moving day?

At Maffucci Bekins, we are able to help with any last minute changes during the moving process. In this situation, we will work with you and make arrangements to store your belongings in our climate-controlled warehouse until your office space is ready. We also offer storage for any furniture that may be sent prior to your moving day. If this is needed, we can also have a team come in and install any furniture that is needed.

How can you help my company save time searching for files or medical records?

At Maffucci Bekins, we will pick up your files or medical records and store them at our safe, secure warehouse. Upon arrival, they will be barcoded and scanned into our computerized filing system, where you will have computer access to your inventory. Given proper notice, we can have these files or medical records delivered to you within 24 hours. By doing this, you can free up valuable space and time for your employees.

Do you offer valuation?

When you move with Maffucci Bekins, you will always have the option of covering your office furniture or equipment during your move. We have several types of valuations, but we always recommend that you first check with your office insurance to see if you are already covered. If necessary, you can always speak to your Project Manager to determine which coverage best suits your moving needs.

What happens if something is damaged or broken?

At Maffucci Bekins, we have a claims department that will be there to handle all your questions and concerns to make sure your claim is handled properly.

How can I pay for my move?

You can pay for your move by cash, certified check, bank check, company check or credit card within 30 days of the move. We do not accept personal checks for office relocations.



How are moving costs calculated?

Moving costs are based on total volume and/or weight of your personal belongings. Even though exact volume cannot be determined until final packing is completed, our representatives possess the necessary experience to provide an estimate that is as near as possible to the final cost.

As a shipper, what am I responsible for during the moving process?

Maffucci Bekins can provide you with the general guidelines regarding destination entry requirements and will be able to answer any questions you may have. However, you should contact your local consulate or the embassy in Washington D.C. to verify all of the requirements. Additionally, you should read the inventory form carefully, and ask your coordinator to explain anything you don't understand. Please ensure that you do not pack any prohibited items.

How can I determine the taxes for which I will be responsible?

Your personal move coordinator will provide general guidelines regarding duties and taxes. Usually, used household goods and personal effects are allowed to enter most countries without significant duties or taxes. Official information can be obtained by contacting the Consulate or Embassy of the destination country.

Are there items I cannot bring with me?

We will supply you with customs regulations for your destination country. This customs information page will list certain items that are restricted or prohibited by your destination country.

What mode of service will be used to transport my shipment?

Maffucci Bekins provides international household relocation services utilizing lift vans, steamship containers and air freight boxes. Lift vans are large wooden shipping crates that can be handled with a forklift. We expertly prepare and pack these wooden crates so as to reduce the possibility of damage. Steamship containers (steel ocean containers) come in several sizes that we will match to your specific need. Containers have a capacity of approximately 1100 cubic feet to 2400 cubic feet. Airfreight service usually consists of smaller or more time-sensitive shipments.

How is my shipment packed?

Your household goods are carefully wrapped and padded before being packed and each piece of furniture is wrapped completely in protective materials.

Can I pack some of my items myself?

Yes, however please keep in mind that shipments packed by owner or "PBO's" cannot be fully insured. Bekins International recommends that if you do wish to organize certain items, you leave the packed boxes unsealed for our crew to inspect the contents and their condition so we can make the proper entry on the packing inventory.

What insurance services does Bekins International provide?

Bekins International has a select offering of insurance plans diverse enough to provide coverage to each of the transferees who use our services.

Full Replacement Value Coverage - You can purchase insurance coverage for the full value of your belongings, which includes protection for any damage incurred during shipping. However, in order to qualify for this coverage, Bekins International must professionally pack and unpack the goods at both points. Contents should be insured at their replacement value. This service is available with or without a deductible.

Released Value Coverage Released value means that in opting for no insurance coverage you receive the base coverage provided under maritime law. This provision is currently $0.30 per pound per article.

Can Bekins International provide storage for my household goods?

Maffucci Bekins can provide secure storage at both the origin and destination. If your travels overseas are not permanent, you may choose to leave some portion of your household goods in storage. If you cannot take possession of your items overseas until a certain date, we can arrange for storage at destination until you are ready for final delivery of your household goods.

Does Bekins International accept credit cards?

We accept any major credit card. Additionally, we accept cashier's checks or certified checks.



How much will it cost to store my belongings?

At our 24-hour 7 day-a-week secure storage facility, we offer storage vaults that are $50 per container. Please speak with your personal move coordinator to determine how much space you will need in our warehouse. Since there is no minimum or maximum set length of time, you are able to store your belongings in our warehouse for as long or as short as is needed.

Do I have access to my storage units?

You can access your contents at our warehouse as long as are given proper advanced notice (at least 24 hours is preferred). No one is allowed to enter our warehouse without the storage supervisor being present. You can come any time during office hours Monday thru Friday (8am-5pm) or on Saturday (8am-1pm).

Are belongings safe in your warehouse?

No one is allowed access to our warehouse without a supervisor at all times. Your contents will be stored in our secure warehouse with video surveillance and with the proper care and padding to prevent any damage.

Do you offer valuation?

What is the white-glove packing service?

When you tap our white-glove packing and crating service, you can just sit back and relax. We pack your entire household, from the dishes in the cabinet to the books in the library and rom the clothes in your closet to the artwork on your walls.

If I decide to pack myself, what type of boxes do you sell?

During your move, it is important to use the correct packing materials needed to protect your possessions. This will alleviate any damage during transit. Triple Crown Maffucci Bekins recommends using various size cartons for specific items. Please see our packing supplies page and contact your personal move coordinator to help determine which cartons would be needed.

What happens if we run out of time and do not finish packing?

At Maffucci Bekins, we are able to help with any last minute changes that may take place during your move. We can always have our professional packers come and finish off any boxes you may not have had time to. We do, however, recommend that you try to start packing as early as possible so that you are prepared for any last minute situations that may arise.

How will I know that my valuables will be packed properly?

Our professional packers average 25 years of experience and go through on-the-job training to master the many skills associated with the packing process. They are experts in securely crating valuables such as fine art, marble, mirrors and glass. They handle your prized possessions with care, using customized moving supplies and careful packing techniques.

How does valuation work if your company packs my home?

If Maffucci Bekins packs your household items, we are always responsible for any damage. To be sure that your goods are protected, we offer various levels of transit protection, from full value protection to basic liability protection. You choose what's right for you.

If I threw away my flatscreen TV box, how will your company pack my TV?

Maffucci Bekins offers heavy duty corrugated boxes for televisions of all sizes. Your personal move coordinator will take measurements to make sure the correct size box is brought to you on packing or moving day.
